In this podcast Mr. John Merrow discusses the effects of No Child Left Behind with Jay McClain (pictured above) a principal at a Virginia elementary school. Mr. McClain voices his opinion on the No Child Left Behind Act stating that all the testing required does nothing to identify specific areas of need in each individual child’s education. Mr. McClain also states that NCLB reduces creativity in the classroom. He feels that NCLB can reduce the attempts of teachers to strive to do more, drastically narrow the curriculum and reduce critical thinking. Furthermore, Mr. McClain states the NCLB can discourage teachers and take away the joy of teaching. By listening to this podcast I was able to further my knowledge of NCLB and the effect it might possibly have on me as a future educator.
