Oovoo
November 16, 2008 by maggiefirestoneI chose Oovoo as the new educational technology I will discuss this week. Oovoo is a program that allows people to have face to face chats from the computer no matter where they are in the world. Oovoo can be used in education to teach online classes. Also, Oovoo could be used to hear speeches or seminars in others locations.

Educational Podcast
October 26, 2008 by maggiefirestoneIn this podcast Mr. John Merrow discusses the effects of No Child Left Behind with Jay McClain (pictured above) a principal at a Virginia elementary school. Mr. McClain voices his opinion on the No Child Left Behind Act stating that all the testing required does nothing to identify specific areas of need in each individual child’s education. Mr. McClain also states that NCLB reduces creativity in the classroom. He feels that NCLB can reduce the attempts of teachers to strive to do more, drastically narrow the curriculum and reduce critical thinking. Furthermore, Mr. McClain states the NCLB can discourage teachers and take away the joy of teaching. By listening to this podcast I was able to further my knowledge of NCLB and the effect it might possibly have on me as a future educator.

I believe that a Smartboard, should I be lucky enough to have one in my classroom will be a very important piece of educational technology. They perform an endless amount of tasks which allow you to complete lesson plans, show educational video clips and access other technology. Also it can perform lesson plans simply by going through slides and includes an audio clip of the teacher explaining the problems. Technology such as this would make substitute teachers unneccesary. For these reasons I feel that Smartboards would be an influential piece of technology important to any classroom.

RSS Reader
September 20, 2008 by maggiefirestoneFor this assignment I chose to use Bloglines.com as my reader. I have subscribed to the blogs of the following students: Laisha Wise, Calli Copus, Emily Samimi, Krista Wachtman and Antoine Wilhite.
I believe that RSS readers will benefit the classroom by allowing teachers to place all the information relevent to their class in one place. Teachers can subscribe to various websites to receive information and therefore do not have to spend long hours searching for different materials they may be interested in.
